Introduction|
Choreographer for A Day is a co-creation experience that bridges the distance between art and society, as well as public spaces and the general public. The project is divided into two major parts: The first half is a lecture performance that’s about 30 minutes long, with various common styles of dance introduced to share their notable features and cultural backgrounds in a lively manner. The audience is encouraged to ask questions and to actively participate, with the objective of enhancing the general public’s awareness of their bodies, their appreciation for art, and their understanding of performances and creative motives. The second half of the project then invites the audience to act as “choreographers” and to collectively create a site-specific dance repertoire, with an opportunity provided for people to openly share their own life stories with others.
Guided by a moderator who is delightfully humorous, members of the audience then embark on a co-creating journey with the performers. By using the spaces available at the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park and with nostalgic pop music played to enhance the mood, the participants make decisions on the timing of the performance, character design, and other theatrical elements, with their own stories shared to open up an exchange where everyone involved is considered a main subject. The performers then proceed to improvise from their artistic points of view, and together with the audience, a unique site-specific dance repertoire is co-created with the audience at the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park.
